Shan Fan

Shan Fan was founded after the Quake of '68 by Chinese survivors. It was organized by the Hsieh
Chia Jên, otherwise known as the Shan Fan Triad; a criminal syndicate that now runs the city. Despite this, Shan Fan is one of the most popular places in the city. The Triad might be a gang of criminals, but if you don't cross them, they don't bother you; and would much rather sell you food, booze, sex or drugs. The same sure can't be said for Lost Angels, the only other major city in the Maze proper.

Shan Fan's economy, outside of crime, primarily consists of providing support for all the miners in the northern part of the Maze. Miners dig out Ghost Rock, sell it to the Rockies' Mining Consortium, then spend the proceeds in Shan Fan on entertainment and goods imported from the east. Shan Fan is also semi neutral territory for the independent pirates who raid and steal in the Maze, and often divest their loot here. The larger pirate gangs have a presence, but prefer to use their own strongholds as sanctuaries (Fort Norton and Kwan Province for the raiders under General Kawn, or Bear's Claw, Dragon's Breath and Lion's Roar for the forces commanded by Warlord Kang. Privateers for the North, South and Mexico stick to ports controlled by their respective governments).

Shan Fan is connected to Lost Angels by the Iron Dragon railroad, and connects back east by the recently completed Denver Pacific Railroad. Despite being a port city, Shan Fan has no access to the Pacific for anything larger than a small freighter, so any major ship traffic still has to pass through Lost Angels controlled waters.
